WATTON ANGLING SOCIETY FISHERY GUIDELINES

Members’ Guidelines for Fishing at Thrifts Lake

( Issued April 2011…Revised March 2012…Revised April 2014)

1. There will be a closed season between 1st January and 31st

March inclusive. Fishing in the Arm section of the lake during this

period may be allowed. This decision will be reviewed annually by

discussion between the Committee and the Owner.

2. Cars must be parked in the designated areas and nowhere else.

There will be times when access to certain parking areas will be

limited due to prevailing ground conditions. Please observe all

notices/ropes relating to these areas.

3. The entrance gates are to be kept locked at all times.

4. Only members, their fishing guests and immediate visiting

family members to be within the lake boundary at all times.

5. Members must have in their possession, when fishing :-

(a) a current membership card and

(b) a current Environment Agency Licence(s)

6. Members must produce their membership card and E.A

Licence(s), when requested, to any bailiff, representative of the

Environment Agency or representative of the Owner.

7. Members may use a maximum of 2 rods between 1st April

and 30th September inclusive and 3 rods thereafter until 31st

March. All rods are to be in the same swim. Members should, at all

times, be conscious of the number of fellow members fishing and,

therefore, should use their common sense concerning the number

of rods they are using at any one time.

8. Boilies, particles and ground bait are allowed.

9. Nuts are not allowed in any form other than finely ground in a

ground bait.

10. Members may take 1 guest to fish with them. Application for a

guest ticket should be made to the Fishery Officer giving at least

48 hours notice. Payment of the prevailing fee must be made prior

to the guest being able to fish. Guest tickets are issued subject to :-

(a) members are responsible for the conduct of their guest at all times;

(b) a maximum of 6 guest tickets may be issued for any one day at the

discretion of the Fishery Officer and

(c) these guidelines apply to all guests.

11. Night fishing is allowed on all areas of the lake during the

permitted periods.

12. Members and their guests are only permitted to fish for a

period not exceeding 72 hours in any one visit. Swims may not be

reserved. However, for two periods during a season, such periods

not to be consecutive, a member may fish for a period of 168 hours

(7 days) in a single visit provided this visit has been authorised at

least 7 days beforehand by The Fishery Officer, who will only allow

two members to be on such extended visit at any one time.

13. Dogs are only allowed provided they are kept under control

and do not interfere with the quiet enjoyment of members whilst

fishing.

14. STRICTLY NO LITTER. If a member or guest is found to have left

any litter whatsoever (this includes cigarette ends), the Committee

reserves the right to expel the member immediately.

15. All fish are to be handled with the utmost care and are to be

returned alive. No fish are to be taken away or moved between the

lakes without the express permission of the Fishery Officer. Sacking

of fish should be avoided. All members must be in possession of

an unhooking mat of the “cradle” type with sufficient padding to

prevent any fish suffering damage whilst out of the water. All nets,

cradles and slings must be DRY when brought into the fishery.

16. The use of bait boats is allowed but they should be used in

a responsible manner having regard to fellow members fishing in

the same area.

17. Boats may only to be used on the lake by those authorised

by the Fishery Officer or a bailiff. Life jackets must be worn at all

times.

18. The Club House may be used by any member provided it is left

clean and tidy and any litter is removed. Leave it in the condition

you would hope to find it in!

19. Arm members may only fish in the Main Lake as a guest of a full

member and subject to the same conditions applying to guests set

out in (10) above.

PLEASE OBSERVE THESE GUIDELINES AT ALL TIMES. THE AIM OF

THE SOCIETY IS TO PROVIDE TOP QUALITY FISHING IN A PLEASANT

AND SECURE ENVIRONMENT WITH LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE WHOSE

AIM IS TO ENJOY THE SPORT OF FISHING WITH FRIENDS.

FAILURE TO OBSERVE ANY OF THESE GUIDELINES WILL JEOPARDISE

THE CONTINUING MEMBERSHIP OF THE INDIVIDUAL INVOLVED

AND THE COMMITTEE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REVOKE THAT

MEMBERSHIP EITHER FOR A GIVEN PERIOD OR PERMANENTLY.
